Resident Senator

Resident Senators currently serve as Student Senators and support Torchlight as consultants. They may review the content of Legislative Fellows, Analysts, and Database Editors to provide the nuanced perspective of a sitting Senator. They may also be asked to provide historical insight and recommendations to the Transparency Branch. They report directly to the Director of Legislative Affairs to ensure impartiality and may also be called upon to provide content recommendations to the Director using their internal knowledge of the Student Senate. Applicants can be expected to develop their critical thinking skills, editing capabilities, and help shape the student body’s understanding of the Student Government Association.

Primary Responsibilities

• Providing advisory opinions to Legislative Fellows, Analysts, and Database Editors for on-going projects

• Communicating vital details of on-going legislation and projects within the Student Senate to the Director of Legislative Affairs

Necessary Characteristics

• Commitment to abide by Torchlight’s Conflict-of-Interest policy

• High-level of commitment to and knowledge of the Student Senate and a desire to increase participation of the student body within the Student Government Association
