Torchlight's Student Government Fall Election Debate

The Torchlight Campus Policy Center will be hosting a Student Government debate on Thursday, November 5th at 7pm via Zoom, prior to the November 10th Student Government elections.

The debate will be run by the Torchlight Board of the Directors:

The Director of Torchlight, Patrick Martin, will serve as the moderator with time keeping and other logistical support provided by the Director of Policy Analysis, Jaylen Darling, the Director of Legislative Affairs, Shayna Cohen, and the Director of Operations, Chloe Goodwin.


The two political parties running in this election cycle, the Amplify Movement and Progress FSU, will be represented at the debate by one party representative to provide opening and closing statements, and three fall candidates to represent the party as debaters during the question and answer portion of the event.


Amplify Movement:

Party Representative: Madison Mougey, Chair of the Amplify Movement

Debater One: Jason Randall, Senate Candidate, College of Communication and Information

Debater Two: Sasha Martin, Senate Candidate, College of Social Work

Debater Three: Daniel Rivera, Senate Candidate, College of Undergraduate Studies


Progress FSU:

Party Representative: Miles Feacher, Special Advisor for Progress FSU

Debater One: Franceska Edouard, Senate Candidate, College of Undergraduate Studies

Debater Two: Vanessa Ramos, Senate Candidate, College of Social Sciences

Debater Three: Chance Preshia, Senate Candidate, College of Communication and Information


The rules for the debate were written by Torchlight's Director of Legislative Affairs, edited and approved by a majority vote of the Torchlight Board of Directors, and agreed upon by both the Amplify Movement and Progress FSU. They are embedded below for the sake of transparency.


The debate will be taking place November 5, 2020 at 7pm via Zoom and is open to the entire student body.
